Hi, I'm a writer and occasional editor. I've been writing professionally for more than a decade, and by now I've written a lot of pieces, in a lot of genres, for a lot of publications; you can find some of them here. In June 2025, Henry Holt will publish my debut novel, The Nimbus, which is (ahem) available for preorders now.

 

In past lives, I've worked as an editor at The New Yorker, Harper's Magazine, The Paris Review, Chicago Review, and Esquire. I grew up in Chico, California, studied mechanical engineering and human biology at Stanford, and completed a master's degree and a Ph.D. at the University of Chicago Divinity School. (I wrote a dissertation on Dante.) I have accounts on Bluesky and Instagram.

 

I live in Brooklyn with my wife, my children, and my dog.
